Using a ‘Straight’ (photographic style that emphasizes capturing light as it is found) photographic approach, I document sites that on one level read as vacant shells such as; massage parlour windows, empty factories, big box stores and theatre stages. However these places are often populated with words and objects that are steeped in meaning.
My aim is not to comment on the specific sites but to cull and reframe the raw data. The same is true when I venture into a domestic interior to make a photograph; the external world is never left behind. It is there in a compressed and intensified manner and my goal is to reveal the social influences that I perceive to be there.
